Random Stuff from This Week

There’s 2 things this week that came up at work that I found quite funny, so I wanted to share them here!

The first was something I spotted in our automated tests that run on all our code commits.

Having a bad time because my code wouldn’t build successfully was made better by seeing this error message! Upon reading this I heard the sad trombone in my head, which accurately represents the feeling of watching the build turn red.

The second thing came after I finally took the plunge and updated my macbook to Catalina.

Usually I am the kind of person who is excited for updates and goes for it on day 1, ready to fight bugs. However as this is a work machine, and I had read some articles on problems with Catalina, I held off until now. So far I actually haven’t had any issues, a lot of annoying pop up boxes asking me to confirm permissions for programmes, but that is the extent of problems I have had.

The funny thing I spotted was this:

Which you may or may not know used to be this:

As a software developer in the UK, this makes me happy. It feels like a very small win in a world of code where I am constantly having to misspell colour and replace S’s with Z’s. I think we all know who made this happen…
